Kathy collaborates closely with Product Development. Legal, Regulatory, Professional Veterinary Affairs, and Global Marketing functions to assure targeted nutritional and functional product claims support Hill’s brands and product strategy.  During her career with Hill’s she has been a major force in the development and commercialization of many innovative nutritional products for companion animals.  She was a leader in the development of Hill's® Prescription Diet® a/d® Canine/Feline pet food--an energy dense, highly palatable canned product that can either be fed in a bowl or put into a syringe for assisted feeding to dogs and cats recovering from a debilitative state such as surgery, cancer therapy, injury or malnutrition. She was a leader in the development of Hill’s® Prescription Diet® Canine n/d which is a patented and clinically proven pet food shown to increase survival time and improve the quality of life in dogs with cancer that are undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy--the only product of its kind available for dogs.  She was also a leader and conducted research that provided data to the Center for Veterinary Medicine at the FDA to allow supplementation of L-carnitine into pet foods.  Hill's weight management products were the first products on the market containing added L-carnitine which has been shown to help metabolize fat for energy and increase lean muscle mass during weight loss.  She also led the expansion a novel weight loss technology platform to Science Diet, developing Science Diet® Perfect Weight®. Most recently, Kathy led product development for the relaunch of Ideal Balance and its line extensions, including the new Ideal Balance Crafted line launched in early 2015 which includes products with novel ingredients, stew forms and Hill’s only baked dry dog foods. She has authored over 45 scholarly articles and book chapters and published 50+ scientific abstracts.
