Dr. Montelone directs the office of Research and Sponsored Programs and serves as liaison to the vice president for research for strategic planning and spearheading special projects. Prior to joining the research office in January 2017, she served as Associate Dean for Research in the College of Arts & Sciences from 2004-2016. She is a Professor of Biology and was Interim Research Director of the K-State Biosecurity Research Institute and held the Peine Professorship of Biosecurity from 2008-2011.Her biology research was in the area of DNA repair, recombination, and mutagenesis. More recently, her work has focused on increasing participation in STEM fields by women and persons from underrepresented minority groups.
